Handy dB table

technicalaudio.com/reading/handydB.html

here is a dopey page that might be useful - so now when you or someone says 'I need so many dB gain or so many dB loss' you can look at what this means as a factor or multiplier for Voltage and Power... so, for example, someone says they want an amplifier with 30dB of voltage gain you can see that means that they want something with voltage gain factor of about 32... as in 1mV in and 32mV out. ... and if someone says the PA system has to be 20dB louder you can see you need 100 times more than whatever Watts you are cranking now to get there... like I said... dopey but maybe useful

This also might give you a clue as to why, when you need 100dB of voltage gain, that two 50dB amplifiers would probably be better and easier to make happen than one 100dB amplifier - unless you want to operate open loop that is...

note that 0dB is unity gain

have fun at all times because you really don't know how long you will be allowed or able to...
